For these stars, was a night to celebrate.
Some of the biggest names in music, movies, TV and sports were honored at the 2024 BET Awards in Los Angeles June 30. And among the big winners was Usher, who walked away with Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, and Tyla, who took home Best International Artist. (Find all the jaw-dropping red carpet looks here.)
Heading into the ceremony (hosted by Taraji P. Henson), Drake was the most-nominated artist, picking up seven nods, including for Album of the Year, Best Collaboration, Video of the Year and Best Male Hip Hop Artist. Nicki Minaj followed right behind with the "Super Bass" artist receiving a nod for Album of the Year, Video of the Year and Best Female Hip-Hop Artist—plus three more nominations.
And in addition to performances by GloRilla, Latto, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey and Victoria Monet, Usher also received a special honor. Celebrating 30 years of hits, the singer—who was nominated for four awards—was presented with the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award.
It's just another accolade to add to his resume. After all, just last year the 45-year-old completed his Las Vegas residency, then February he released his first album in eight years and just two days later returned to Sin City for the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show. Not to mention a surprise wedding to longtime partner Jennifer Goicoechea shortly after.
And for the Grammy winner, this new music spans the journey of rediscovery.
"I went through an entire world of experience from being a married man to a single man, to having and finding true love myself, and then finding a partner, and then the journey of what that is and what that has become, and is still becoming," he told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year. "The idea of that journey felt like me finally coming back home to this place that I'm very comfortable to just share and know I'm being vulnerable in. I'm ready."
